To start the Backgammon game, each player rolls a die and whoever gets the highest number moves first. The goal of Backgammon is to remove all checkers off the board. It is played by two players and the first player to remove his checkers off the board wins the the game. The player must move his checkers with the number appeared on the die after rolling it. For example, when one player gets a 5 and a 2, one checker is then moved forward for 5 points and the other is 2 points forward. When the goal of reaching the other end of the board or what we call "home board" is reached, a Backgammon game is over or has reached its end, the player can now remove these checkers from the board.
Certain tactics, strategies and variants are considered to be able to have a good match. There are different variants of Backgammon and one of this is simply allowing a limit of 5 checkers to move at any point. Other variants are Acey Deucey, where the player starts with no checkers on the board, hypergammon is where the player has 3 checkers on the board and Nackgammon which is invented by Nack Ballard. Other variants include prison where the player starts with all 15 checkers on the 24 point. On the other hand, Russian Backgammon starts with no checkers on the board like Acey Deucey but both players move in the same direction.
Strategies recorded for backgammon are "priming game", which covers a number of points (consecutive) and is like building a wall of checkers called "prime" to obstruct checkers behind it. Another strategy studied is the "backgame" or placing anchors in opponent's home base or home board. In this sense, the other side can be built with wall of checkers or building a prime. The other strategy is "duplication" which the opponent needs rolls of dice of the same number but different goals. In this case, the player is very careful with the placement of checkers to achieve "duplication" strategy.
There are many variants of backgammon such as Acey Deucey, hypergammon where the player has 3 checkers on the board, the popular Nackgammon, Russian Backgammon which is quite similar with Acey Deucey and prison where a player can choose from.
